Understanding Cat Behavior is Changing Pet Choice
Pets form an integral part of any household with the most loved pets being cats. In fact, cats are even proving to be tough competition over dogs today, as studies show that more and more people are preferring cats to dogs as domestic pets.
A main reason for this growth in pet choices is the amicable, friendly and playful nature of the cats that is drawing more and more people towards them. And there’s no mystery there. Cat behavior is not all that difficult to understand though it may seem strange at times. In a nutshell, there are various ways in which a cat expresses itself which is the characteristic behavior of the cats; for example….
1) Generally cats are thought of as snobbish and detached animals. This, however, does not hold true as the cats yearn for attention and love most to feel at home all the time. They are extremely independent and are competent enough to take care of their food and shelter needs in case they are left alone.
2) Cat behavior is very interesting because these animals mostly express their wishes through their body language and subtle other changes which include actions such as meowing, purring, scratching and kneading. All of these actions portray different emotions like anger, fear or affection. For example, if a cat is angry it tends to have large open eyes. Purring and meowing are the basic sounds of the cats and they converse through these sounds. Purring may indicate sorrow, pain or joy depending upon the circumstances. Cats are also very hygienic and do not like to see even a speck of dirt on their coats. So they have a habit of regularly cleaning their coats.

3) Other important features of cat behavior are their responses to smells and sounds around them. Cats recognize people and places with the help of their traces of scent. The meowing of the cat too has many meanings as well. Sometimes meowing is very mellow and soft while in other cases the meowing is loud and sharp. A cat meows differently in different situations. Scratching is another typical feature that helps cats to sharpen their claws. However not all cats are well behaved angels and some of them do suffer from certain problems which can affect their behavior.
4) Sometimes cats behave in a manner which simply cannot be understood. For instance, sometimes they might avoid using the litter boxes, strike fights and / or engage in tiffs with the other cats. Sometimes a cat may also become aggressive and resort to scratching. This kind of problematic behavior has to be taken care of immediately with utter patience.
Overall, training cats helps in reducing bad behaviors and makes your cat a well behaved and obedient cat. Cat behavior thus throws light on the cat’s wishes and feelings. And it is necessary to know these feelings in order to build a healthy relationship between the owner and the cat.
